After breakfast the day is yours to enjoy, visiting Seattle's best in shopping, sightseeing, Arts and Entertainment, then returning to the peace, quiet and a restful nights' sleep at Villa Heidelberg.
We are only a ten minute drive to Alki Beach which is where the first settlers came ashore. Because the water was too shallow Seattle soon moved to its present location. However, Alki Beach is the only saltwater beach in Seattle and a very popular place for many activities year round.
In summer visitors head for this 2 1/2 mile stretch of sand. It resembles California beaches, with in-line skaters, joggers, and cyclists on the walkway and people playing volleyball. Year-round, families come to build sand castles, beachcomb, and fly kites; in winter, storm-watchers come to see the crashing waves. On site there are grills, picnic tables, phones, and restrooms, plus restaurants line the street across from the beach.
